In the news, we had a great turnout for Missy’s bike ride and BBQ, what a fun day. Thanks for hosting, Missy!  We’ll have at least two more bike rides this year, Patricia’s Cazadero ride and the annual Dry Creek Fall Color ride.  Both of those are very scenic and fairly flat.  Point Reyes has a free shuttle bus from the Bear Valley Visitor Center to Limantour Beach this month, so I want to do a hike that takes advantage of that on the weekend of July 26/27. I would also like to do a trip to Angel Island in August.  Now on to the hike…

Event Details:

  • Stats: 7 miles, 1400 feet elevation change.
  • SR Carpool: Meet at Santa Rosa – Coddingtown at 9 am. We leave PROMPTLY after 10 minutes.
  • Mountain Home Inn, 810 Panoramic Hwy: we’ll start at 10:30 am

Michele is leading this moderate hike on the southern slopes of Mt Tamalpais. It’s one of her favorites, and she says we’ll go through a lovely redwood forest, cross many bridges, and get some great views.   We’ll start from the parking lot across from the Mountain Home Inn and take the Troop 80 Trail to Van Wyck Meadow, then continue to Bootjack where we’ll take a  water and restroom break. From Pantoll we’ll hike up to the Mt Theater where we’ll have lunch. After lunch we’ll take the Rock Springs Trail to West Point Inn where you can get someting to drink and use the restrooms.  We’ll return to the start via the Nora and Matt Davis Trails.  Michele hopes you’ll join her for a cool drink on the deck at the Mountain Home Inn after the hike, which sounds like a plan to me!

Email if you want to carpool from RP,  Petaluma or Marin and I will try to set that up.

Please bring lunch, plenty of water, a snack and a few dollars if you want to get something at the West Point Inn and/or the Mountain Home Inn.

SR Carpool

Our Santa Rosa (SR) carpool will meet at Wolf Coffee at Coddingtown next to Funco and Big 5 Sporting Goods at 9 am. We leave PROMPTLY after 10 minutes.
Trailhead Directions:

From Hwy 101 in Marin County,  take the Hwy 1 exit (Stinson Beach). Drive north on Shoreline Highway about 1 mile to the junction with Almonte. Turn left to stay on Shoreline/Hwy 1 and drive about 2.5 miles to the junction with Panoramic. Turn right onto Panoramic and drive about 1 mile to the junction with Muir Woods Road; continue straight (right lane) to stay on Panoramic. Continue about 1.5 miles more, then turn left into the parking lot across the street from the Mountain Home Inn, 810 Panoramic Hwy., Mill Valley.  Parking can be difficult, Michele says there’s more parking just past the Mountain Home Inn on a gravel street to the right.
