The concert is devoted to percussion and dance and features the work of the following teachers and participating Oakland Schools.
OYC Teachers:
Robbie Belgrade, Julia Chigamba, Ronnie Daliyo, Daniel Faiver, Mario Garza-Gonzales, Joni Haastrup, Lee Hetelson, Hadley Louden, Hector Lugo, Javier Navarrette
Participating Schools:
Achieve, ACORN Woodland, EnCompass, Franklin, Fruitvale, Garfield, Hillcrest, Sequoia, Think College Now, and World.
OYC’s Music In the Schools program features Music of Our World percussion and dance programs in elementary and Miracle Choruses for elementary school singers. Students learn and perform a fun and challenging repertoire of multicultural music with OYC’s faculty of professional educators and performing musicians.
OYC Mission: The Oakland Youth Chorus provides a cross-cultural music education and performance program for youth, fostering talent, confidence, and community.
About Oakland Youth Chorus:
The Oakland Youth Chorus is a non-profit music education and performance program now in its 34th year. OYC provides after-school music classes in
16 public schools in Oakland, and offers onsite rehearsals for its teen Concert Chorus and Middle School Magic Chorus. Both of these choruses have won major awards at national competitions, and have toured nationally.
